Available 24 / 7|Free ConsultationSeek Medical Attention if Injured
You may have been injured in the accident involving an Uber driver. As soon as possible, seek medical attention to determine the severity of your injuries and what treatment you may need. Common injuries suffered after car accidents involving drivers working for ride share companies include:
- Whiplash
- Concussions or other head injuries
- Cuts
- Bruises
- Broken bones, particularly ribs
- Internal bleeding
If the accident was severe, an ambulance may arrive at the scene to take you to the hospital. If the accident was less severe, and you do not have any apparent injuries, seek medical attention anyway, as soon as possible after the accident. Some car accident injuries do not present themselves immediately, so you may be suffering from internal injuries without knowing it; a doctor can properly examine you to determine whether you are injured.
While at the hospital or doctor’s office, the medical provider will perform a physical examination. This requires them to touch various parts of your body to determine whether you may have any bruises or broken bones. The doctor may also order scans such as MRIs or x-rays to rule out any internal injuries.
Once your doctor determines what your injuries are, they will create a treatment plan for you. This may include taking prescribed medication, wearing a cast or sling for any broken bones, following up regularly with your doctor, or seeing a physical therapist. It is important to follow your doctor’s treatment plan so that your injuries can properly heal.
You may also suffer from emotional injuries because of the accident; you may feel guilt, anxiety, or have a fear of driving. If you are experiencing nightmares, trouble sleeping, or other intense emotional reactions, you may be suffering from an emotional injury. A psychologist can diagnose you with an emotional injury and counsel you to overcome these intense emotional reactions; you may also want to see a psychiatrist who can prescribe you medication to relieve some of your symptoms.

Available 24 / 7|Free ConsultationReport the Accident
As soon as you can, report the Uber accident to law enforcement; you can do this by calling 911 while at the scene. After you call 911, a police officer will arrive at the scene to investigate the crash; the police will ask you and other drivers or passengers involved what happened. Any information gathered by the police will be included in their official crash report.
If an officer does not arrive at the scene, you may be required by law to report the accident on your own. Texas law requires people report to the Texas Department of Transportation any car accidents that cause injury, death, or damage exceeding $1,000. If you were injured in an Uber accident, you are required by law to report the accident.
You must create the crash report within ten days of the accident. You can report the accident online by filling out a Crash Report, also known as “the blue form.” To fill out the form, you will need to provide:
- Time and place of the accident
- Name, address, date of birth, and driver’s license information of all drivers involved
- License plate numbers
- Insurance information
- Summary of what happened
- Weather and road conditions at the time of the accident
Once the crash report is created, you can request a copy online at the Texas Department of Transportation website. Crash reports are confidential and are not available for viewing online by the general public. To get a copy of the report, you will have to purchase one through the Crash Report Online Purchase System.

Available 24 / 7|Free ConsultationDocument the Accident
To ensure that you have the proper information required by the blue form, document details about the accident while at the scene of the crash. You can do this by taking pictures of:
- Where the crash occurred, including the weather and road conditions
- The vehicles involved and any damage done to them
- Injuries you suffered
- License plate numbers
- Weather conditions at the time of the accident in the area where it occurred; you can do this by taking a screenshot of the information displayed by a weather app on your phone.
If you are unable to document the crash while at the scene, document any important details as soon as you can. You may want to do this by writing down important information such as what you were doing before the crash, where you were going, and your version of events. This can be helpful to an should you choose to pursue a personal injury claim.
Contact Uber
Report the accident to Uber if you were injured in an Uber accident, especially if you were an Uber passenger. You can do this by reporting the accident through the app on your phone. In the app, you can click on “Your Trips” and select the trip during which you were involved in the accident; you can then choose “Report a Safety Issue” to begin the accident reporting process.
If you were injured in an Uber accident, the costs for your injury will be covered. If your Uber driver has the proper insurance, your driver will be liable for covering the costs of your injuries; however, if your Uber driver does not have the proper insurance, your injuries may be covered by Uber’s insurance. Uber’s insurance identifies three scenarios where riders can and cannot be covered by Uber’s insurance:
- Period 1: The time where a driver makes themselves available to accept trips and where a driver waits to connect with a rider.
- Period 2: The time where a driver has been matched with a rider and is on their way to pick the rider up.
- Period 3: This begins once the rider has entered the car and ends once the rider exits the car and the trip has been marked as completed.
Periods 1 and 2 refer to people who are pedestrians or other drivers. If you were an Uber passenger at the time of the accident, you will fall within Period 3; if you are a Period 3 rider, Uber can cover up to $1 million in damages. To determine whether you can seek compensation directly from Uber, contact an Austin Uber accident attorney who can evaluate your case and help you determine how to best proceed in seeking recovery for your injuries.
